چکیده

Through time-series CCD photometry of the metal-poor globular cluster M53, we have discovered eight new SX Phoenicis type stars (labeled from SXP1 to SXP8). All the new SX Phoenicis stars are located in the blue straggler star region of a color-magnitude diagram of M53. One of these stars (SXP2) is found to have very closely separated pulsation frequencies: f1/f2 = 0.9595 where f1 and f2 are primary and secondary frequencies. This may be due to excitation of non-radial modes. Six of these SX Phoenicis stars are considered to be pulsating in the fundamental mode. They show a tight linear correlation between the period and luminosity. We derive a period luminosity relation for the fundamental mode for the period range of −1.36 < LogP [d] < −1.15 : < V >= −3.010(±0.262)LogP + 15.310(±0.048) with an rms scatter of 0.038, corresponding to < MV >= −3.010LogP − 1.070 for an adopted distance modulus of (m−M)V = 16.38 (Harris 1996). Subject headings: Globular clusters: individual (M53 (NGC 5024)) — stars: blue stragglers — stars: oscillations — stars: variable stars

Phoenicis Stars in the Globular Cluster NGC 5466

Through time-series CCD photometry of the globular cluster NGC 5466, we have detected nine SX Phoenicis stars including three new ones. All the SX Phoenicis stars are located in the blue straggler region in the color-magnitude diagram of NGC 5466. Five of them show clearly double-radial mode features, the periods of which are well consistent with the theoretical ratio of the first overtone mode...

Variable stars in the globular cluster NGC 3201. I. Multimode SX Phe-type variables

We report on the discovery of eleven multimode SX Phoenicis–type blue stragglers in the field of the southern globular cluster NGC 3201. In these variables both radial and non-radial modes are excited. For three variables the derived period ratio is close to that observed in SX Phoenicis itself, suggesting that these stars are pulsating in the fundamental and the first-overtone radial modes. Us...

Tuc ASTRONOMY AND ASTROPHYSICS SX Phœnicis Stars in the Core of 47 Tucanae ⋆

We present new results on five of six known SX Phoenicis stars in the core of the globular cluster 47 Tu-canae. We give interpretations of the light curves in the V and I bands from 8.3 days of observations with the Hubble Space Telescope near the core of 47 Tuc. The most evolved SX Phe star in the cluster is a double-mode pulsator (V2) and we determine its mass to be (1.54 ± 0.05) M ⊙ from its...

Hipparcos parallaxes and the nature of δ Scuti stars ?

Hipparcos parallaxes give new tests of the nature of δ Sct variables. For many individual stars accurate distances are now available, i.e. directly determined luminosities and radii can be used to test theoretical models. Of particular interest are the at present very unclear relations between high–amplitude δ Sct stars and the much more abundant low–amplitude δ Sct variables, and the relations...

Cluster AgeS Experiment ( CASE ) : SX Phe stars from the globular cluster ω

We present an analysis and interpretation of oscillation spectra for all 69 SX Phoenicis stars discovered in the field of the cluster. For most of the stars we have reliable absolute magnitudes and colors. Except of one, or perhaps two, objects, the stars are cluster members. Their pulsational behaviour is very diversified. Multiperi-odic variability with at least part of the excited modes bein...
